COPD Community Connectors Celebrate First Year of Working Together
The COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Community Connectors had lunch at Shoebury Youth Centre before Christmas to celebrate their first year working together, to receive a copy of the yearly report and of course a Christmas card!
The group have worked hard to gain a deeper understanding of the lived experience of those with COPD when accessing support and how they can help improve outcomes for people. Through this work, a ‘Drop In Group’ has been set up at Shoebury Youth Centre on a Thursday 11am – 12noon (term time only) to offer support and a safe space to share lived experiences. Read more

East of England Death Literacy Survey
Death. What do you know about it? Sorry to be blunt, but the more you know about end-of-life care choices for you and your family, the better prepared you will be when the time comes. Death literacy is the knowledge and skills that people need to make it possible to gain access to, understand, and make informed choices about end-of-life care options. Please complete the survey and share it with others
Over 65s and those with respiratory illness are urged to take action to protect themselves from sepsis, pneumonia and meningitis
The local NHS has launched a campaign to highlight the importance of pneumococcal vaccination and to improve take-up of the free NHS vaccination offer to over 65s and other vulnerable people.
Data for the East of England shows less than 5% of those eligible for free pneumococcal vaccination are taking up the offer. The vaccine offers protection against several very serious, possibly fatal infections including meningitis, sepsis and pneumonia. Read more

Proposal to stop the Southend-on-Sea dementia support service - consultation
Southend City Council would like your views on proposals to stop the Southend-on-Sea dementia support service. The service offers information, practical advice, and support to help individuals and their carers understand dementia and live well with dementia. This includes running motivational and activity groups. Although the service currently supports residents in Southend-on-Sea, Castle Point, and Rochford local council areas, this consultation is limited to the service provided for Southend-on-Sea residents.
Due to the current financial challenges faced by Southend-on-Sea City Council, unfortunately, the dementia support service has been identified as one service that may need to be stopped and savings made. Have your say
