Southend Volunteer Awards 2024
Last night saw the very first Southend Volunteer Awards celebration held at the Roslin Beach Hotel where the city’s volunteering stars were recognised and awarded in a lovely ceremony.
A huge well done to all of the Volunteers nominated as well as a big congratulations to both the finalists and winners.
Bowel Babes
Volunteers at Southend’s Cancer Research store took to the streets and braved the pouring rain with a massive help from sponsors I Love Fancy Dress to raise money for the Bowel Babe Fund that was founded by the late Dame Deborah James. Despite the weather they managed to raise over £150!
Invincible Games 2024
The inspiring Invincible Games is an annual sports festival hosted by Active Essex and the Multi-Schools Council where over 350 students from 18 special schools across Essex participated in a wide range of sports events.

Clean Air Day
The 20th of June marked Clean Air Day, the UK’s largest air pollution campaign.
Air pollution is linked to 43,000 deaths per year in the UK- why not visit the Southend Clean Air Hub and make a pledge to support cleaner air.
Industrial Action
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced Junior Doctors will take strike action from 7am on 27th June to 7am on 2nd July 2024.
Professor Sir Stephen Powis, NHS national medical director says “the public should continue to use services in the usual way by using 999 and A&E in an emergency, and otherwise the public can use 111 online and community services like GP’s and pharmacies which are open as usual for help and advice”.
Upcoming Events
Community Connect Vehicle
On Monday the 8th July the Castle Point and Rochford Community Connect Vehicle will be stationed at Thorney Bay on Canvey Island from 11am-2pm in partnership with the Canvey Primary Care Network.
Support will be available from Lady McAdden Breast Cancer Trust, CAVS Social Prescribers, United in Kind and Canvey PCN will be providing NHS health checks.

Euros 2024 Fun for Dads and Little Ones
Saturday 29th June 10am-12pm, Trust Links, Shoeburyness
Dads and little ones can enjoy football themed fun, conversation and a delicious free Brunch.
Family Fun Time at the Beach
Saturday 29th June 12pm-3pm, Beach Hut number 13, East Beach
The ABSS Engagement team will provide fun outdoor activities and buckets and spades. There will also be visits from the local beach clean heroes at Surfers against sewage and the Coastguard from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
Sustainable Parenting Ideas Market and Fun Day
Sunday 30th June 11am-2pm, The Royals Shopping Centre Southend
Families and the local community can discover family support available locally, enjoy a delicious smoothie from the pedal power eco-bike, plus fun for little ones with the Little City play area and face painting.
