Support for families with babies and young children in Southend is changing
Support for families with babies and young children in Southend is changing as the A Better Start Southend (ABSS) National Lottery Community Fund grant ends in March 2025.
Over the past 10 years, ABSS has supported 7,865 children aged 0-3 and pregnant women in six wards throughout a range of projects and services aimed at discovering what works best to help make Southend a great place to have and raise a child.
From November, City Family will launch a service providing first line advice and support, particularly focused on ABSS projects and services and the transition to beyond ABSS.

Waddle On Sea Art Trail
Richmond Avenue Primary and Nursery School in Shoeburyness was one of the first schools to sign up for the waddle-on-sea community and learning programme and will be holding a competition to decide on the final design for their penguin.
After a successful partnership on two previous art trails, Hares About Town and Herd In The City, Havens Hospices are delighted to work with Wild in Art again to deliver a third extraordinary public art trail and cultural event throughout the city of Southend on Sea- this time with a huddle of beautifully painted penguins.
